Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your Myrtle Beach rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 7th-floor partial ocean-view snowbird-friendly condo with pool & hot tub has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
