How to Save Money on Your Rental

  • Many management companies and rental homes provide Myrtle Beach area promotional travel magazines which feature coupons, either offered independently by vendors, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. These guides provide an excellent start to your rental search.
  • Are you willing to change your vacation week? Off-peak rates are usually a fraction of high prices.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be eligible for discounted prices. Be sure to check with property management company to see if your travelling gang is eligible for a special offer.
  • Some vacation rentals are practically designed to serve particular visitors, whether it's beachfront homes with weekly pier passes, city-center homes with walkable access to shopping or waterfront homes that feature their own windsurfing launching areas. You'll receive the best value from a rental that most closely satisfies your ideal holiday setting, regardless if it costs a little more.
  • Give thought to getting trip insurance along with your rental contract. Trip insurance, which generally costs somewhere between 1% - 5% of the basic term cost, offers travellers reimbursement of their trip costs for any nights missed a result of health emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, like an unforeseen motel stay or extra fuel. Trip insurance can be a bank account-saver if the unforseen happens .

General Rental Home Advice

First-timers are sometimes surprised at the range and wide range of short-term vacation rentals available in the Myrtle Beach area. Vacation home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of worldwide research sites like Homeaway and VRBO.

Rental homes are often owner operated or managed by rental management companies. Vacation rental management companies leverage scale, technology and expertise to provide trouble-free operational administration on behalf of the property owner..

We've assembled a brief guide to help you get the most from your rental property experience.

Searching for and booking the perfect rental home:

Do you think " A must see! 3 BR 2 1/2 BA Ocean view and Pool view" is the perfect rental property for your upcoming trip? Browse through this check list to make sure it fits your needs.

Start Your Search Early

Myrtle Beach rental properties start booking very early. For the best selection, begin your planning and search Six-Twelve months in advance of your trip. A lot of visitors decide to begin their search during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year gatherings.

Pick your Town and Travel Week

Quite often, the toughest part of preparing for your vacation is deciding on where to go, and when. Once the big decisions are tackled, everything else becomes simpler.

Exactly How Much Vacation rental Do You Actually Need?

Determine who is attending the vacation, and how many/what kind of bedroom configuration you should have. Bear in mind that many properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the living area. You will need to determine what is most appropriate for the company. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are usually available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you book.

What Exactly Are You Willing to Spend?

Make sure that " A must see! 3 BR 2 1/2 BA Ocean view and Pool view" satisfies your budget *during your desired dates*. If several individuals or families are sharing the cost, make sure each group understands their obligation and has approved a maximum they are willing to chip in. Normally, a single member of the group will be in charge of making the whole reservation and getting each person's contribution.

Let's Discuss Amenities

What amenities is the group trying to find? Do you want a rental with patio kitchen? Will the unit need to be beach front, the downtown area, or close to night life? Are bedsheets offered with the rental agreement, or will you need to provide your own? Create a list of priority amenities to guide narrow your search.

Special Criteria

Elderly guests will appreciate you for not reserving a stairs-only condominium on the Third floor. If wheel chair access, elevators, pool lifts or other specialized equipment is required, factor that into your search. The majority of vacation home postings include a list of amenities.

Take the Dog

Don't forget to include your companion! Animal guidelines are different at each rental. Read descriptions carefully. Type of pet, size and dog breeds can be restricted. Read your contract carefully! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract. When in doubt, ask the property owner and get it in writing.

Its Time to Search

. Besides Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "Myrtle Beach local rental homes" for local rental management companies. Local vacation home management companies take pride in a superior vacation experience.

Negotiate the Price

When you've spotted the rentalhome of your dreams, double check to make sure your travel dates are available.

While not true for all rental properties, many owners and property managers will make a deal on rates. If they are unwilling to budge on a highly-desirable week, try asking for an additional night. Negotiating rates is more effective through the off-peak season when many rental homes sit vacant.

Read through the Entire Contract

Read the whole contract and be sure you understand who is responsible for:

  • Electric bills
  • WIFI Access
  • Telephone service
  • Hot Tub Heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Daily Cleaning (If Available)
  • Trash Pickup (and which day?)
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Space

Make sure your quote includes all taxes and fees.

If you wish to Cancel

Cancellation policies are different with each rental. Many rental property agreements include an option for trip insurance. Trip insurance guards the renter against emergency situations and weather events, It offers reassurance should disaster strike.

Complete the Reservation

Once you think you've found "the one", start the booking process. You will likely be asked to submit a security deposit at time of reservation.

Keep Your Property Manager's Info

Be sure to get the property manager's contact telephone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We suggest saving the contact's information in your smart phone and wallet.

Congrats! All that is left is enjoying your visit!

During your Stay

  • Take pictures at your arrival. To make certain no damages are associated with your stay, create a record of any trouble spots of the property. We also advise promptly calling the rental manager with a report of any damages, together with your request for any required repairs. If there is a disagreement about liability later, having the documented problems and contact attempts will be incredibly helpful.
  • Should there be any ambiguity about vehicle parking, policies of the house, house access, pool operation, etc... we recommend you ask the property manager immediately. A quick phone call helps prevent many problems.
  • Don't forget to be a good neighbor. . Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by vacationers next to your primary residence.
  • Ask a local. Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best pizza, have a great night out, or the best places for wildlife?
  • Be sure to protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental home locked up when you are away, just like you would in your own home.

Leaving Paradise

  • Ensure you've packed everything. Inspect drawers, bath cabinetry and wardrobes.
  • Be sure to walk through the rental one last time and check for damages. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible (this isn't always the case).. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How would you feel about your choice? Nearly all rental websites ask for testimonials after your stay is complete. Owners and rental managers will appreciate your glowing recommendations. If anything went wrong, we advise being understanding but genuine in regards to your stay. Top owners and managers will work very hard to correct the problem.

Hold a debrief with your traveling companions. Did they feel about the rental? Hopefully this guide helped you find a great rental home. If not, you've gained invaluable experience that can help with another search.
