Vacation rental booking tips:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Myrtle Beach area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Family friendly on 33 acres close to the beach (NO HIDDEN FEES) has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Myrtle Beach destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
