Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Harbour Lights™ - 2 Bedroom Combined has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
