Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best rental home:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sheraton 2-Bedroom Condo by the famed Broadway at the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
