FAQ

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance?
Yes, tickets must be purchased in advance. All of our cruises are private and often sell out.
We have 2 suggestions when purchasing one of our trips:
1) We suggest purchasing your tickets early to guarantee your desired cruise day and time slot. You can buy your tickets either online or by phone with a Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
2) We suggest setting your cruise day early in your vacation week. This allows for rescheduling if there is inclimate weather.

What time should I arrive?
We recommend that you be at the marina 15 minutes prior to the start of your charter. This will give you the opportunity to get comfortable with the boat, as well as allow us time to review boating safety with you.

Where do we go?
The sailboat will leave the marina and cruise on the scenic Intracoastal Waterway through the Little River waterfront, into the Little River Inlet, past two un-inhabited barrier islands, and anchoring for your meal by Bird Island.

How big is the sailboat and how many people are allowed on it?
Bohemian Blue is a 39ft Beneteau and Island Song is a 32ft Morgan. The US Coast Guard regulates us to a maximum of 6 guests plus crew.

What do we do if there is poor weather?
Safety is a priority at Myrtle Beach Sailing School & Charters. Your captain reserves the right to postpone or cancel your charter if conditions are not ideal, and will call you if we are unable to sail. If your captain cancels your charter due to inclement weather and you are unable to arrange a “make-up” day, you will receive a full refund of your deposit.

What should I wear?
Always dress for the season. Dressing in layers is highly recommended. Please keep in mind that when you are on the water it is typically cooler than being on shore. Soft-soled shoes and flip-flops are allowed although most guests tend to go barefoot once on the boat. Sunglasses are typically a plus also.

Are children allowed to attend?
No, this cruise is catered towards adult couples.

What type of wildlife will we see?
Keep your eyes open and bring a camera... we typically see dolphins on our trips as well as the occasional sighting of sea turtles, jellyfish, sting rays, pelicans, blue herons (and other birds), working shrimp boats, and more.

Are there restrooms?
Yes. We have a private electric toilet for your use.

What is the Low Country Boil?
This is a group meal/entree to be shared! Eaten with the fingers and shared with family and friends, the Low-Country Boil consists of Redskin Potatoes, smoked sausage, corn on the cob, and fresh shrimp cooked in a boiling pot of water with crab-boil seasoning.

What do we do after dinner?
Most guests tend to find a seat and kick back ad relax while the sun is setting and taking pictures. After the sun sets we will begin our return trip to the marina.

Do I need to bring anything?
Although we do have a bimini for shade, we advise you to bring sun protection. Sunbeams reflect off of the top of the water.

Will I get seasick?
Everyone reacts to sailing on the ocean differently. If you are prone to motion sickness, there are multiple remedies you can try. Non-drowsy medications (consult your doctor for the latest/greatest anti-sick medications), wrist-bands, skin patches, ginger-based food or drinks and more are a few options guests have used on our charters.

How far are you from where we are staying?
A list of the greater Myrtle Beach area with approximate driving times are here: • 30 Minutes north of Downtown Myrtle Beach • 12 Minutes north of Downtown North Myrtle Beach • 55 Minutes north of Surfside Beach & Garden City, SC (take hwy 31 to bypass traffic) • 20 Minutes south of Sunset Beach, NC • 30 Minutes south of Ocean Isle, NC

Is the boat wheelchair and handicap accessible?
No. We do attempt to accommodate those with handicaps, but sometimes it is not practical. We ARE willing to discuss your needs. Please contact us via the "Contact SailingMB" link.

If I am pregnant can I still go on the cruise?
Conditions on the ocean are prone to changing hourly and daily. Most of our sailing is generally done in 1 to 3 feet of swell (waves) action, however, if conditions change and stronger winds and higher wave action increases, you might be bounced around a bit. This may cause the sailboat to heel (tilt over) more which requires some muscle to help keep you in your seat! We advise anyone under medical supervision to consult with their physician before scheduling a sailing charter.

What is your tipping policy?
Tipping your captain/crew is optional and is greatly appreciated. A typical tip is generally 15-20%.

Are gift certificates available?
Yes, gift certificates are available and make great gifts for any occasion! If you would like to purchase a gift certificate, please contact Captain Jason via the "Contact SailingMB" link.
