Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Direct Oceanfront King w\/ Beautiful View + Official On-Site Rental Privileges has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
