Our top Rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning and picking the rightrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Immaculate, 1-bdrm condo in Myrtlewood Villas, 1.5 mi. to beach, 5 STAR REVIEWS! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
