Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your Myrtle Beach rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Ocean View King Suite-Pools with Hot Tubs- GC-437 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
