Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental in Myrtle Beach:
- Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Seaside Sanctuary, B514 @ The Myrtle Beach Resort Ocean Views has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
