Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Book your Myrtle Beach rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. OCEAN FRONT-DIRECT ACCESS TO BEACH-SITE 916 GREAT PRICING CANT BEAT THE VIEW has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
