Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- To find the best value, try shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfect Myrtle Beach rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. “Almost Perfect” would love to be your vacation home for 2023. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
