Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are high season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, try changing your family's Myrtle Beach trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your group select a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Relaxing: 1st Floor Oceanfront Room at the Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
