Strategies to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 2 bed, 2 bath Oceanfront! -Ocean's One Resort 1806 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If not, email the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Have a great stay:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
