Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation rental:
- Start by having your group select the best dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. 9th-floor ocean-view with pool, hot tub & beach access - snowbird-friendly has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach beach you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
