Rental booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best vacation rental:
- Start by having your group select vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Beach House at Oceanside Village with A View of the Ocean has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
