Our top Vacation rental home tips:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Myrtle Beach restaurants, tours, and activities.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose the best vacation rental:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Harbour Lights, South Carolina, 1 Bedroom Deluxe has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
