Strategies for getting the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Myrtle Beach. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home:

  • To start, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes - 2 Bedroom - View: Ocean View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
