Finding the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Filter your rental search:
- Select vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. < 2 Mi to Beach: Savannah Shores Resort Condo! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is right for your trip.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
