Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking a perfect Myrtle Beach rental home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Corner oceanfront 2BR @ Myrtle Beach Resort has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your family.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
