Strategies to get the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Myrtle Beach area:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Private home close to beach, pool, tennis, golf, basketball, shopping & food ???? has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
