Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental:
- Start by having your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Third-floor oceanfront studio with pool, AC, & free breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
