Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, change your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Seeking snowbirds! 50% off month-long stay has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
