Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 2 Bedroom Ocean Views, Pools, Sands, Ocean Annies! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
