How to get the best vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking your Myrtle Beach rental home:
- Start by having your group agree to the best dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. 404BT, ocean view condo with full access to all resort amenities has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
