Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfect Myrtle Beach rental home:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. 5th-floor oceanfront snowbird-friendly condo with pool, hot tub, W/D, & AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is suitable for your family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
