Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in Myrtle Beach. To book the best rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Myrtle Beach restaurants and activities.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:
- Start by having your group agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 9th-floor oceanfront studio with pool, hot tub, & AC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. text the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
