Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the best vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Adorable studio efficiency in Myrtle Beach at Ocean Reef Resort has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
