Rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Cozy Couples Condo - smart home w/ split-king adjustable bed & power recliners! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Myrtle Beach attraction you are crazy about, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
