Myrtle Beach rental home booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, change your family's Myrtle Beach vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Fabulous Ocean Reef Resort has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
