Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Feel like home away from home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If there's a specific Myrtle Beach destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
