Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the Myrtle Beach area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Myrtle Beach area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home:

  • To start, have your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Harbour Lights™ - 1 Bedroom Deluxe has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
