Strategies for getting the best Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Reserve your rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
