Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Ocean View Retreat: Includes Breakfast 14th Flr has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
