Getting the best Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Myrtle Beach area. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the best Myrtle Beach vacation home:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Paradise on the 8th Floor: 1 Bedroom Oceanfront has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
