Tips to get the best Myrtle Beach vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. Reserve your rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the best rental home in Myrtle Beach:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. SANDY PEARL, NEW 2023 BUILD, in Ocean Lakes, 5 Bdr 4.5 Ba has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Myrtle Beach attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
