Tips to get the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
When to visit Myrtle Beach & When to reserve a Myrtle Beach rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
Finding the best rental:
- Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Wyndham SeaWatch
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
