Strategies to get the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog friendly home near beach & golf, Pool\/Hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
