Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:
Getting the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Myrtle Beach. To get the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Myrtle Beach area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Relax in Style
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, call the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Myrtle Beach destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
