Our top Myrtle Beach rental home tips and tricks:
When to book a Myrtle Beach rental home & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Myrtle Beach area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Ocean Lakes - Site B3 - One row back from the Beach! Walk to all OL amenities! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
