Tips to get the perfect Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose a perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanviews-Multiple Balconies-Steps 2 Beach-Pool-1st Flr-X-Space-Gated Community has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
