Finding the best Myrtle Beach rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your Myrtle Beach vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. See the views from this oceanfront condo on the 19th floor!! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
