Our top Myrtle Beach vacation rental tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Myrtle Beach area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Myrtle Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Myrtle Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Unit C9, 5 BR, 3 BA House w 4 decks. Near Beach and Pool has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
