Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Book your Myrtle Beach vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to select the best rental:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 1st Floor, Corner Unit - Awesome Location! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many issues.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
