Tips to get the optimal Myrtle Beach vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Myrtle Beach. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Myrtle Beach visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Connect with our 1BR Oceanview Suite has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Myrtle Beach rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
